Sewer line repair starts with finding the break. Your sewer line carries every drain's waste out to the main in the street or to a septic tank. On a septic lot, the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) calls that pipe the building sewer. When it cracks or fills with roots, the drains back up.
South County Septic and Excavation Services digs up and replaces broken sewer lines in North Kingstown and across Rhode Island. We replace one bad section or the whole run, from the foundation wall to the street or the tank. We also lay new sewer connections for homes and businesses that tie into town sewer. When a clog is the only trouble, drain cleaning may clear the line with no digging.

Tree roots find cracks and loose joints in older pipe and grow inside. The roots catch paper and waste until the line plugs. Soil can settle under a stretch of pipe and leave a belly, a low spot where waste sits. Joints also shift out of line, and old pipe can break or cave in.
The first signs show up inside. Several drains run slow at once, and the lowest drain in the house backs up first. A sewage smell in the yard or a soggy strip over the line points the same way.
A camera inspection shows the cause before anyone digs. The camera travels down the line and shows the roots, the cracks, the sags and the offset joints. A locator then marks the spot on the ground, so the trench opens in the right place.
The camera footage sets the size of the job. One cracked or root-filled section in sound pipe gets a section repair. Trouble along most of the run calls for a full sewer line replacement. Our work ends at the foundation wall, where the house plumbing begins.
Every dig starts with a call to Dig Safe at 811, at least 72 hours ahead by Rhode Island law. Dig Safe's member utilities mark their own lines, not the private ones on your lot. The part of the sewer line you own is private, so we trace it with the camera and the locator.
In the trench, the bad pipe comes out and new pipe goes in on a compacted, firm base. On a septic lot, RIDEM's rules set a slope of 1 to 5 percent from the house to the tank. Where cars drive over the pipe, the rules call for Schedule 40 PVC or an equal.
When town sewer reaches your street, the house needs a new line out to it. North Kingstown's sewer standards split that line in two. Pipe within five feet of the house falls under the town's building official. The part in the street right-of-way falls under the Public Works Department.
In North Kingstown, no sewer work may be covered until the town inspects and approves it. The standards also call for a backwater valve on each home, a one-way valve against sewer backups. Rainwater and groundwater stay out of the sanitary sewer too: Johnston's ordinance, for one, bars roof downspouts and foundation drains. That water needs a drainage system of its own.
Moving to town sewer also retires the old septic tank or cesspool. RIDEM's rules say any tank or cesspool no longer in use gets emptied, then removed or filled in place. North Kingstown's standards name crushed stone or gravel as the fill. Where town sewer is not an option, a cesspool that has to go calls for septic system installation instead.

We come out to see the site and how a machine gets in. On a problem call, we look for the cause first.
The quote comes to you in writing, with the work spelled out. A septic design goes to the state for approval before the install.
After a Dig Safe (811) call, the utilities mark their buried lines before any machine digs. Then we do the work the quote describes.
Where we dug, we backfill and grade, and we tell you what we did. A new septic system goes into use once the state issues its Certificate of Conformance.

South County Septic did an excellent job replacing our old septic system and leach-field. Michael surveyed the property, designed a new system, installed and worked with the RI DEM with no issues. I highly recommend this business.
Michael was great! Picked up right away and was able to come within the hour to evaluate. Immediately got into motion additional resources we might need to come that day and solved the problem. Very informative and great to work with. Highly recommend.
Was referred out to Michael after an emergency waterline break that flooded our basement. He was there every step of the way and answered all the questions we had. Michael let us know what was happening during the process and could not have been happier with the outcome. Great price and great customer service! Highly recommend if anyone is in need of their services
